Judging from the survey, since mid-October 2020, inquiries and transactions for domestic carded and combed cotton yarns with counts of C50S and above have continued to be active. Some large and medium-sized yarn mills in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong, Henan and other places have reported high Not only has the production and sales situation of yarn count been relatively good for several consecutive months, but the profits of yarn mills have improved significantly after the Spring Festival compared with November, December, and January. However, on the one hand, customers of high-count yarns are relatively stable. Due to the demand for product quality and stability, generally The purchaser will not be easily adjusted; on the other hand, high-count yarns are greatly restricted by technology, equipment and process levels. Most small and medium-sized yarn mills with 60S and above cotton yarns and blended yarns have difficulty accepting orders. Moreover, the high-count yarn market is relatively small. Narrow, not much room for expansion.

Why have the production and sales of high-count carded and combed yarn continued to boom in recent months? After investigation, the author summarized the following points:

First, as the growth momentum of the global epidemic slowed down in the fourth quarter of 2020, consumer demand for high-end clothing, brand clothing, etc. in developed countries such as Europe, the United States, Japan and South Korea rebounded strongly. On the one hand, some large and medium-sized textile and clothing companies in China are actively and proactively taking on foreign trade and domestic high-end orders; on the other hand, although major Southeast Asian textile countries such as India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh have emerged from the epidemic swamp since the fourth quarter of 2020 and have resumed work and production, a large number of European and American orders are rapidly flowing to Southeast Asia. However, for high-end gauze, fabrics, and clothing, Southeast Asian countries are restricted by insufficient technical equipment, personnel levels, industrial supporting facilities, etc., and orders for gauze with a count of 60S and above have to be “flowed back” to China (some Indian and Pakistani , Vietnamese enterprises have become “brokers” and traders);

Secondly, in 2020/21, not only the planting area and output of long-staple cotton in Xinjiang have “double-dropped”, but also American Pima cotton, Egyptian Giza cotton, etc. The supply is very tight, which affects the spinning of high-count yarn and cotton. According to reports from several foreign businessmen and large cotton companies, the current price of SJV Pima cotton and Egyptian long-staple cotton at the port is not only high, but also the number of bonded and customs clearance is relatively low, and it is even “hard to get a ticket”; while the cotton planted in the Aksu region in 2020/21 The area has dropped significantly compared with the previous year (the purchase price of long-staple cotton seed cotton in 2019/20 is low, and farmers’ income is not ideal, which is lower than that of fine-staple cotton) and is restricted by weather, cotton species and other factors. The fiber length of long-staple cotton is 35-36 Mainly, the proportion of those aged 37 and above has decreased significantly. Due to insufficient supply of raw materials and limited options for spinning mills, high-count yarns of 50S and above cannot increase production and expand quickly;

Thirdly, imported high-count yarns are not only scarce but also have poor quality stability and cannot reach to the requirements of cloth factories, garment enterprises and downstream customers. Judging from market feedback in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong and other places, except for a few Vietnamese and Indian spinning mills that provide quotations for 50S and 60S cotton yarns, the leading products of other East Asian countries’ spinning mills are almost all 40S and below carded yarns and open-end spinning yarns; India’s high-count yarn not only has low output and poor quality stability (cotton distribution, order arrangement, technology, etc. are not rigorous and change frequently), but the quotation of cotton yarn with a count of 50S and above is even higher than that of domestic yarn, basically lacking competitiveness;

Fourthly, due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic in the first half of 2020, not only did cotton, polyester staple fiber and other raw material stocks continue to be low in yarn mills, but cotton yarn was also “processed based on orders to reduce accumulated inventory” (especially the large capital flow and demand High-count yarn cotton spinning mills and middlemen with relatively limited growth have lower stockpiling). With the retaliatory rebound in demand for high-end textile and clothing products for export and domestic trade since the fourth quarter of 2020, the phenomenon of insufficient production of yarn mills for sales has become prominent. </p
